Practice Price List HORSE HEALTH PLAN We intend to offer horse health checks, twice yearly ideally, but where economy is essential we can discuss carrying this out once yearly. The fee may be paid as a one off payment or in twelve monthly instalments. The examination will be as follows: 1. A general visual inspection and assessment. 2. Assessment of heart and lungs and the rest of the respiratory system by stethoscope etc. 3. Assessment of eyes with ophthalmoscope 4. Assessment of teeth. There will be advice as to what work if any needs to be carried out and it’s approximate cost. 5. Assessment of coat and skin, at this point we would condition score the horse (too fat, too thin etc) 6. Visual inspection of legs followed by palpation (feeling for lumps and bumps) 7. Assessment of feet and foot balance. 8. Assessment of walk and trot in hand. (Ridden assessment would involve extra cost due to time involved) 9. Discussion of feeding and management. 10. Report which will take the form of pro-forma, with comments on each of the above with suggested action to be taken. A copy of which we will file for future reference. There is a Horse Health Scheme programme running which includes a routine blood test but we have found that many horses do not require this as the cost cannot be justified. If examination of the animal does suggest that a blood test is required to assess possible infection levels and/or metabolic function (liver, kidney, hormone levels) we will advise at the time of examination. If the horse is vaccinated at the same time we will offer 5% discount on the vaccination and if necessary 10% on micro-chipping + discount on completion of passport identification, for those horses which still do not have a passport. (Note: all foals born after 1st July this year require to be micro-chipped by law) The cost of the basic Health Check will be £84.00 + VAT which equates to £7.00 pcm + VAT X 2 if 6 monthly checks required. This does not include visit charges which vary due to the distance. NOTE: Visit charges can be eliminated by bringing your horse to us or reduced by arranging several horses to be examined at the same time.
